Look For The Good

Last Tuesday morning, I opened Facebook to find a photo of Lisa & Don (the folks above) so that I could post about them. But the post that popped up when opened FB was from a friend who was involved in the planning the Litchfield Wellness Festival last month. She & the other organizers were apologizing for leaving yard signs around town after the Festival ended (mind you, it was few signs, not hundreds). She was apologizing in response to someone else’s post complaining about the signs being left. And while some people had helpful responses, others continued to complain. I was involved with the Festival. Here’s the thing – it was FREE. 100% free to attendees & anyone could attend. It offered free movement & wellness classes & music & was just a really nice community event. And it was only their 2nd year. So that people were complaining about signs being left out or not getting invited to present…

Kind of bummed me out.

But I managed to stay on task & continue & get a photo of Lisa & Don & share a post about them. Lisa was a kids librarian for years. Now she & Don (her husband) own the Mosquito Authority in Torrington. Lisa’s become a “regular” at the studio & teaches the kids yoga classes. This week, Don is donating one of his kidneys to someone they know, via a live transfer…meaning, they’ll remove it from him & put it in the recipient. Lisa is going to donate one of her kidneys after Don recovers.

When Lisa first told me about it, I was in awe. She explained how they found out that someone they knew needed a kidney & decided to just go for some tests to see what would happen. After much rigorous testing & having lots of information given to them – it turned out that they were both great donor candidates. Lisa said after learning everything that they had, donating a kidney was just the right thing to do. I was & still am in awe. What a generous & selfless gift to give someone. Because you don’t get anything for it! Maybe an extra night at the hospital, but that’s about it.

My point? Well, I wanted to acknowledge Lisa & Don. But also…stay off social media:)…don’t engage in the silliness of social media:)…& maybe most important, engage with people in real time, look for the good & share it & be the change you want to see in the world.
